Now that we’ve had a chance to tell close friends in person, I can tell you wonderful people who follow The Project, that my dining companion has agreed to become my wife. I proposed on New Year’s Eve up in the mountains, at the ski cabin we were staying in. We were about to sit down to a beef tenderloin feast her father had spent the afternoon preparing, and I pulled her out onto the balcony and proposed. After establishing that, yes I was serious, and no, this wasn’t a joke, she said yes.

Congratulations again to both of you.
So, would you give the proposal a 5-mushroom rating?
Congratulations! It is a well known fact that marriage causes weight gain – maybe some “lite” Gourmet recipes in the future?
Thanks!
The Book is really not the right place to go if you’re looking for “lite” food. The food writing world has it’s seasonal focus of summer BBQ, hearty autumn bounty, Christmas excess, and then January penance and starvation. I can play along with the hearty excess parts, but helping to maintain ones svelt figure isn’t one of The Books strengths.
I’m very glad I decided to do The Project at my own pace. If I’d gone the one recipe a day route I’m sure I would put on 50 lbs. As it is I just try to eat healthier foods on the non Gourmet nights. But between married life, and the dramatic slowdown of my metabolism that’s supposed to happen around age 30, I’ve got to watch it.
Congrats! And, yes, 30 means new pairs of pants.
